More than 170 Cocopah students Thursday night received special awards and recognition for academic excellence, attendance and participation in school activities.
“It takes everyone working together to achieve any form of greatness,” said Tribal Council Chairwoman Sherry Cordova in her welcoming address. “There is one thing that never changes---learning. Learning never stops and has no boundaries.”
Approximately 300 family members and friends joined the students for the 18th Annual Education Awards Banquet hosted by the Cocopah Education Department.
Students ranging from kindergarten to high school graduates, along with five college graduates, picked up their awards for their accomplishments during the 2014-2015 school year.
Among Thursday night’s award winners were: 76 kindergarten through 5th grade students; 42 middle school students; 49 high school students; and five college graduates.
The ceremony was held at the Cocopah RV and Golf Resort.
