Cocopah Tribal Member LaDonna Crabb has been named Intermediate Teacher of the Year for Yuma County. Ms. Crabb is a 4th grade teacher at Valle del Encanto Elementary School and has worked with the Somerton School District for the past 10 years.
"This award just reassures that I AM making a difference! I am proud to be Cocopah and from Somerton! It’s been an amazing 10 years and I plan on only making Somerton better one day at a time, one lesson at a time, one student at a time," Crabb said.
She was nominated by her principal Luciano Munoz and colleagues.
As reported in the Yuma Sun newspaper, Munoz said, "Ms. Crabb's love for her students is evident as she plans lessons and projects, balancing high expectations with a keen understanding of the developmental needs of her students. The families of her students often comment about the love and dedication that Ms. Crabb demonstrates to the students in her class. As grade-evel joint team leader, Ms. Crabb demonstrates resourcefulness and initiative. She always looks for ways to improve her job performance. She streamlined the grade-level assessments to reduce any unnecessary paperwork, which is such a challenge for busy teachers!"
